About Tanilba Bay
Tanilba Bay, the focus for our current heritage and history project, is a suburb on the Tilligerry Peninsula in the Port Stephens area of New South Wales, Australia. The name “Tanilba” is believed to mean “place of white flowers” in a local Indigenous language, possibly referring to the flannel flowers that used to thrive in the area.
Why we love the Tilligerry Peninsula
The Tilligerry Peninsula, encompassing Salt Ash, Oyster Cove, Tanilba Bay, Mallabula, and Lemon Tree Passage, offers a serene coastal lifestyle amidst picturesque waterfronts and natural beauty. With parks, reserves, and local amenities including a primary school and shops, it provides an ideal blend of tranquility and urban convenience.
Always was,
Always will be
The Tilligerry is in the traditional territory of the Worimi people, who have a deep cultural connection to the area. They are the traditional owners of the Port Stephens region, where the Tanilba Bay is located.
