Tanilba Bay’s Heritage Sites

The heritage trail explores Tanilba Bay, a place steeped in history

Our Heritage Sites

You will discover the rich heritage of Tanilba Bay, focusing on two key figures: Lieutenant William Caswell and Henry F Halloran. The scene is Tanilba Bay in the early 1830โ€™s when Lt William Caswell, one of the first white settlers arrives on the pristine shores of Port Stephens. This is where Lt William Caswell with his family built his first dwelling, Tanilba House. Imagine the challenges he faced, carving a home out of the wilderness.

Now shift to the early 1930โ€™s, 100 years later when Henry F Halloran, a visionary urban planner envisioned creating a harmonious community with a focus on preserving natural beauty. His influence is evident in the layout and design of Tanilba Bay. Tanilba Bay invites you to uncover its rich heritage, where each site tells a unique story of resilience and community.
