Step into the heart of Port Stephens’ vibrant history by becoming a welcome member of the Port Stephens Family History Society, located right in the heart of the Tilligerry.
Engage with like-minded history enthusiasts attending our local meetings in the area. These gatherings offer an intimate space to share knowledge, stories, and a collective passion for our shared heritage.

The Port Stephens Family and History Society takes pride in creating meaningful connections to our past. We’ve recently launched a heritage trail walk, and we’re inviting locals and visitors alike to explore our region’s rich history.

Membership Fees
- Single membership: $50.00
- Family membership: $65.00
- Optional Joining Fee: $10.00 (incl. Starter kit)
What am I entitled to when I join?
Members enjoy full access to all society holdings. Please note that computer discs are not available for borrowing. Additionally, certain selected books are marked as non-borrowable to ensure their preservation and availability for all members to reference within the Society’s premises. These resources are available for use whilst in our meeting room.
When should I pay my fees?
Our annual membership fees, are due on 1 July and are subject to proportional fees after September. Join us today and play a vital role in helping PSFHSI celebrate the history of Port Stephens.
How can I submit my application form?
To complete your membership you can:
- Download a form & post or present your form at the meeting room Old School Centre; or
- Complete the online registration form below & submit the online form.

Payment can be made by one of 2 methods:
- Pay in person by cash on any research day at the Old School Centre 10 am-12 am
- Pay by bank transfer to PSFHSI BSB 637-000 Account No. 781377945 please reference your name and add “membership”.
Society’s Holdings
The Society’s Research material covers local, Australian, and International resources. The Society’s Resources include BD&Ms, Cemeteries, Census & Musters, Electoral rolls, and Convict Indents to name a few. A small sample is listed below.
- International Genealogical Index (IGI) for ALL British Counties on fiche.
- World Wide Ancestry
- Convict Records
- Census Records
- Local and Australian Cemeteries
- NSW Musters & Electoral rolls, for various years.
- Assisted Passenger Lists.

- Local family histories.
Whether tracing your ancestry or delving into historical records, our collection provides a solid foundation for your research endeavours. We’re here to assist you in your journey of discovery!
Meetings
Meetings are held every Thursday from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm and on Saturday by appointment. The society is not open on public holidays.
Our research room is located in Kenneth Parade, Lemon Tree Passage (opposite the Lemon Tree Passage Bowling Club car park & entrance).
Our meeting room is in the Lemon Tree Passage Old School Centre.
